This (proposed) invention applies to petrol cars. The best of petrol cars are said to have a life-span of about 300,000 km. In order to achieve this, the hardest of materials are used in the engine. Now instead of such a heroic approach, one could make some parts of softer materials, deliberately designed to wear out sooner, yet easy to replace, say at 20,000 km intervals. The advantages are that the harder parts would last longer, and pollution over the life-span of the car would see more frequent cycles, ideally less in total.
