I was reminded today of an extraordinary moment, when I was about 20 years of age. I was a quick thinker, interested in everything, but not a diligent student. There was little reason for anyone to be especially interested in me. One day, a president of the (then) 0.3 billion member World Council of Churches called me up. Would I like to come round? I took a train to reach him, and had coffee with him in a room filled with books from floor to ceiling. He listened to me carefully -- then launched into a gentle, yet radical criticism of my ideas. OBSERVATION: What is interesting for me now is, what was he thinking, when he called me up?
