Engaging Disruptors

A particularly popular post on this blog was about disruptors in Church. It must have struck a chord. It is more common in city ministry. Mostly it is one person who disrupts. Mostly they do not belong to the Church. If a disruption has happened in a Church service, I have usually dealt with it by engaging with the disruptor, and persuading them to continue the conversation later. OBSERVATION: One evening I was sitting in the congregation when we had a disruptor. A man with a cigarette behind his ear walked to the front, held a hand in the air, and took over the service. In front of a full Church, I walked to the front, and said, "Hey! It's great to have you here! What's your name? Can we do this later?" He was completely distracted, and left. A deaconess came to me after the service and reprimanded me: “That was dangerous! That man was high! Don’t ever do that again!” The Church appointed "first responders" after that, so that I wouldn't take risks.
