I took this photo of a
Robber Fly or 'Assassin Fly' on my front gate last week. I think these flies are out of their former range here (in Cape Town). I don't remember seeing them as a youth, but one sees them now. While it is proverbial that "the spider catches the fly", these are flies that catch the spider -- and almost anything besides. They are basically harmless to humans, although they can bite.
