Funerals in South Africa are worlds apart. Here wife E. is enjoying some very nice cheesecake following a largely European funeral. If this were an African funeral, there would be a plate piled high with meat and vegetables. OBSERVATION: Other, major cultural differences are the number of services (one or a few), the length of the services (less than an hour vs. several hours), the singing (solemn vs. joyous), the viewing of the body (no viewing or multiple viewings), the presence of children (rare vs. prominent), the dress (black or co-ordinated) -- and so on.
