At the beginning of my city ministry, our treasurer complained that people were not giving enough to cover the cost of the envelopes they gave it in (the Church supplied the envelopes). I did some calculations, and said to a colleague: "All our troubles would be over if every member tithed (gave 10%)." He said: "Do you tithe?" From that day, I tithed, and made it known that I tithed. I tithed to the poor, too, in addition. OBSERVATION: Ultimately I did something that I think I would not do now. It was awkward settling reimbursements from the Church, so I kept a record of them and took the amounts from my tithe. I think I would keep them separate now, in spite of the awkwardness.
