Just as there may be various reasons for disbelieving Scripture, so I think there may be various reasons for believing. I do not follow those who rest on a raft of hard evidence for belief, and consider that to be a rather hazardous approach, though not without merit. Re-reading a celebrated professor of mine, I was surprised to find that his approach to Scripture seemed to overlap with mine, or mine with his. That is that it rings true -- not merely as a whole, but in uncountable ways. OBSERVATION: And this does not mean merely that it is true in a sense -- which is the route that many theologians take -- but that I take it as read.
