Mission Hat

Earlier this week, I rediscovered my hat from the mission (pictured) -- made of pandanus leaves, and bound with coconut string. It seems hard to believe that such a time and place really existed. There is a film in the Colonial Film Database in which I am seen wearing it on an outrigger canoe. OBSERVATION: The hat didn't do me much good, as I didn't wear it often enough. I damaged my skin for life through my exposure to sun in the islands.

Mauri Thomas, I am honoured to see your katarawa (hat), that you use it during your mission trip
