Ministry is a very pressured job, especially where a Church is thriving. So for me, complete breaks have been important. This has meant no communications, yet some possible means of contacting me if there has to be contact. I took one break on a dairy farm, Rhenosterfontein -- but my late wife Mirjam's health was not sure. I joked: "The village
butcher is only 15km away. He can send a delivery truck to tell the
dairy that you called, and the dairy can send a runner to find me." She said: "That's just how it was last time! 'No, the Reverend is not here
now. He's somewhere out there now. We'll call him to a phone as soon as
we see him.'" OBSERVATION: I took a cell-phone with me, because of her health.
POSTSCRIPT: I think I suffered an error of judgement in this post. It is not only where a Church is thriving that ministry is a very pressured job. It is mostly very pressured. The statistics bear this out.
