Blended United Church

Somebody sent me a Church's (long) position statement last week. It was a joy to read. The Church had done much the same as we did under my nearly 20 years of city ministry. While retaining our core convictions, we broadened our tenets and practice, to create what I might call a "blended" or "united" Church. It happened in a variety of areas. We had seen that we were welcoming many visitors from other denominations and traditions, and wanted to find a way to fully incorporate them. In the long run, this led to life and strength. OBSERVATION: It probably was responsible for our survival. Ours was one of the few Churches in the area which was sustainable. We sought not to move any faster than the congregation, though. Every step of the way, it was the decision of the congregation, that this is where we should be heading.
