There is a story which ought to be better known. A woman was convinced that the postman was plotting to kill her. The postman intended nothing of the sort. But he got wind of this, and so decided to show her particular courtesy, kindness, and favour. But every time he did so, the woman thought that he was seeking to gain her confidence ... so as to kill her. In short, there was nothing the postman could do to convince the woman that he did not intend to kill her. Everything served as evidence of his evil plan. OBSERVATION: This happens all the time, in a great variety of ways.
