My Namesake

This is some ... fairly informed guesswork. I discovered a history that my mother wrote, in which I am named after an ancestor Thomas -- the grandfather of my grandfather Scarborough. This ancestor changed his name to Scarborough, being persuaded by a £10,000 offer (about $1,000,000 US today) of his family, to be cast off. The family was Constable, "an old and respected Yorkshire family". It seems likely, therefore, that it was one of my ancestor Thomas' relatives, William Constable, who was involved in Macomb's Purchase -- part of New York state. This land belonged to the Iroquois tribes. OBSERVATION: The Constables -- assuming it is them -- are still on the family estate today.
